Working Mums at Home? 1

Waking up to the sunny spring Sydney morning, I love the feeling of being a working mum living in a big international city.

I have enjoyed a 10 year long career, working hard and putting in the extra hours to climb the proverbial ladder, making sure I stay ahead of the pack. Why is it that as soon as I took leave to have master #1 I felt almost guilty for not being at work ? Is it old-fashioned for Mums to work hard for their families?

Mothers are our own worst enemies. Why do two groups of mothers exist; the ‘stay at home mum’ and the ‘working mum’.

As women, I believe we can have our cake and eat it too. Literally. We can do whatever we set our minds to, be it working hard for our families, our boss or ourselves. We can be the heart of our homes, the lifeline of our families, it is our gift as women to be able to provide this.

What is important is that we don’t pigeon hole ourselves into a certain parenting style or demographic. And then divide ourselves accordingly.

As women, we can choose to bring ‘old fashioned’ traditions to our homes (i.e. baking, sewing, gardening), and incorporate these into our busy modern lives. It is not necessary to dedicate ourselves to only one pursuit, we should be capable to forge new traditions using the knowledge of generations before us.

I imagine that I will go back to work, but I am also the heart of my home. [polldaddy poll=6498712]

That was so very touching and an inrtpoamt read. I agree whole heartedly it is so inrtpoamt to teach your children how to swim by signing them up for swimming lessons. If our children came with manuals that should be one of the first rules how to parent your child.
